Chibi Planet Critters is the brainchild and minor obsession of Kim McKay. She started making these critters and selling them at markets in Victoria BC in 2005. There are now over 60 species represented in the chibi family. Kim also does special orders such as pet and people caricatures, chess sets and party favours. She also teaches kids (and adults!) how to make their own chibis, ask Kim about her next class.
The chibis are made out of a polymer clay, baked in an oven, and then painted or accented with acrylic paints. Each one is hand-sculpted and painted and no two are exactly alike.
The chibis have garnered quite a following here in Victoria and now they're ready to conquer the internet! If you'd like to start your own chibi collection, visit our Etsy store and adopt a few today.
FACTOID: "Chibi" is a Japanese word meaning child or small person, and it's often used in anime or manga to describe a junior or child-like form of a character.
